Postponement for Students in 2025: Who Has the Right Not to Go to the Army.
According to inkorr.com: In Ukraine, in 2025, students will remain one of the categories that may be exempt from conscription. However, not all educational institutions automatically have the right to this postponement. It depends on the form of study, age, and stage of acquiring education. This information was provided by the first vice-rector of Lviv National University named after Ivan Franko, Andriy Hukalyuk, in an interview.
Which Categories of Students Have the Right to Postponement
The right to postponementis granted to students who meet certain criteria. According to Hukalyuk, this applies to those who study in full-time or dual forms and under an educational program, not repeating an already obtained degree.
For example, master's students who have not previously obtained this level can expect a postponement. To confirm this, educational institutions generate special notifications through the Unified State Electronic Database on Education (USEDE).
Conditions for Maintaining Postponement for Students
Recently, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security supported a draft law that clarifies the rules of postponement. The changes concern students of higher education institutions, vocational schools, and colleges. The main
conditions for maintaining postponement:
-
Age and start of study: postponement is granted if studies started before the age of 25.
-
Form of study: only full-time or dual form.
-
Duration of study: postponement is valid only during the official term of the program (for example, 4 years for a bachelor's degree).
-
Sequence of education: postponement is granted only for the first attainment of a certain level of education.
If a student takes an academic leave, repeats a course, or delays their studies, they lose the right to postponement, even if they formally remain a student.
Recall that the Verkhovna Rada proposed
new rules for postponementfor students.
The clarified rules of postponement are important under the current situation in Ukraine, as students play a significant role in the future of the country. The belief that youth can acquire necessary knowledge and skills without the threat of conscription is an important step towards stable development and support for education in Ukraine. Additionally, such changes can simplify the process of obtaining education, allowing students to focus on their studies.
