Rob Edwards defended Morgan Whittaker

According to The Sun: Rob Edwards emotionally spoke out in defense of Morgan Whittaker after Middlesbrough fans ironically applauded his substitution during the match against Preston.

The 24-year-old striker has been struggling to make an impact since his £5 million move from Plymouth in January.

Whittaker has yet to score a goal but has provided two assists for his team this season.

He was substituted in the 66th minute of the match against Preston, where the team was trailing, and the player who came on scored the first goal. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.

After the team maintained their unbeaten streak, Edwards commented on the reaction from some of the 5,500 fans to Whittaker's substitution in his official interview.

“The fans were amazing, and we thank them for their support. But I must say one thing: I don’t want to see that kind of reaction during a substitution. I don’t like it.'

Edwards emphasized that the team must maintain unity and support for one another to succeed.

“Morgan has been great from day one. He shows commitment and works very hard. We must protect him and love him.”

The coach noted that Whittaker has started all six of the team’s matches this season, and his commitment is beyond doubt.

He also urged fans to support the players.

“I appreciate the support and love our fans very much. I understand everyone is entitled to their opinion, but at this moment, when everything is going well, we must care for our own.'

In January, Whittaker faced criticism after accusations from his former Plymouth manager that he 'did not show up' for a match against Burnley due to transfer rumors. The player dismissed these allegations, explaining that it was a mutual decision regarding his absence from the game.

Now Whittaker is eager to prove his worth and justify the coach's trust in the match against West Brom on Friday.
