Journalist from Sun landed in Augusta, Maine, instead of Georgia: How it happened.
Unpredictable Journey of the Correspondent
According to The Sun: The story of soccer player Lewis White who did not go to Berry seems ridiculous - especially for a golf correspondent who did not land in the right Augusta!
Exactly that happened to me when I flew to the USA to cover the Masters for Sun for the third time.
Soccer player Lewis White went viral when he did not travel to Berry Getty Golf reporter David Facey made headlines in the USA when he did not fly to the right Augusta
He landed instead more than a thousand miles away in Maine
I have attended 27 Masters in a row and almost a quarter of a century after my 1,500-mile detour I still can't forget this incident.
White landed 'only' 200 miles from the wrong place, and such situations are more common than one might think.
There was another famous incident when Era Ospenser's daughter took a taxi for a Chelsea game against Arsenal but instead ended up in the village of Stamford Bridge in Yorkshire.
This caused her to be 246 miles from her intended destination. It's uncomfortable, but I still find that my random trip tops it all.
Instead of flying to sunny Georgia, I landed in snowy Augusta, Maine.
I only realized the situation when I decided to change into shorts during a short stop in Boston to prepare for the predicted 80 degrees at the start of Masters week.
I was looked at surprisingly when I boarded the flight to Augusta.
As we started to fly over the snowy landscape, I realized why.
I turned to the flight attendant, and she confirmed that we were flying to North America - to a city with less than 20,000 inhabitants. It was not a major transfer point.

I could fly from there to Atlanta and catch the right flight to the right Augusta.
When I called the 24-hour hotline of our travel company, it seemed like nothing could go wrong anymore.
I asked them to book me a room at the Holiday Inn in Portland.
They mistakenly booked a room at the Holiday Inn in Portland, Oregon, on the other end of the country!
I couldn't finish my journey until the next day - and was greeted again with a warm welcome when I arrived at the media center.
I explained to some colleagues why I was one day late, and my story spread like wildfire.
A reporter from the Boston Globe interviewed me, and 'The Lost Lemon' made it to the back of the news.
This happened in 2001, and I am still 'the guy who accidentally landed in Augusta, Maine'.
The Masters 2001 was the year when Tiger Woods surpassed David Duval and Phil Mickelson and became the first player to hold all four majors simultaneously.
Come on, how can one forget something like that?
