Details About No-Spending Days

Leah, who lives in East London, spends no-spending days at least once a week.

“I’m really strict about this,”
she recounts.
“I don’t touch my card and actively try not to make any transactions, whether online or in store.”
On these days, she tries not to spend even cash.

The popularity of no-spending days is growing among young people who strive to live more economically. Everyone can set their own rules for their no-spending day, but in general, it means refusing 'non-essential' purchases.

Leah's Savings

Leah estimates that she has already saved £110-120 each month over the last three months thanks to no-spending days. If this trend continues, she could save an impressive £1,440 over the year.

Spending and Eating Strategy

Leah buys groceries once a week to avoid the temptation of buying snacks or visiting the supermarket on no-spending days. She prepares simple meals with a small number of ingredients, spending about £30 a week.

One of her favorite dishes is a rice bowl with tuna, cucumbers, and eggs.

“Most of my recipes consist of five or six ingredients at most, and seasonal products, like vegetables and fruits, are generally affordable,”
she says.

Leah tries to recreate the dishes she loves to buy at cafes at home. For example, a yogurt bowl costs her only £3.14, while the price at the cafe is significantly higher.

Leah's Social Life

Leah tries to plan her no-spending days so that they do not coincide with social events.

“It’s also a day to gather my thoughts and do something else outside of 9 to 5,”
she says. When she goes out with friends to a pub, she only orders water, saving her money.

Many of her friends are also in a similar financial situation, so they understand her desire to save. Leah admits that she has to turn down invitations, but this practice helps her manage her time more effectively.

Through spending time together at home, going for walks, and visiting parks, she has managed to save significantly.

Leah is confident that controlling expenses is an important step towards financial independence and aims to share her experience with others.
