Bolt retired from his brilliant career in 2017 and has been struggling for a year with the effects of an Achilles injury that has negatively impacted his endurance. In a conversation with The Guardian, he admitted:

“When I climb stairs, I run out of breath.”

The 39-year-old Bolt mostly trains in the gym, but says he still needs to get back into shape:

“I probably need to start with new runs to restore my breathing.”

He still holds three world records, including the legendary 9.58 seconds for 100 meters. Additionally, Bolt has records for 200 meters and the 4x100 meter relay – 19.19 seconds and 36.84 seconds respectively.

New generation sprinters cannot match his performances

When asked why modern sprinters cannot reach his level, he remarked:

“We are just more talented.”

Bolt also expressed the opinion that female sprinters are achieving better times nowadays, while men are falling behind in speed:

“They are running faster times.”

After the end of his career, Bolt stopped actively following athletics but recently visited Tokyo, where he observed the successes of Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and Oblique Seville.

His three children play an important role in his new life: Olympia Lightning (five years old) and two sons – Leo and Saint (both two years old). He values fatherhood, which has opened up new hobbies for him, especially Lego.

Bolt talked about his daily life after the end of his career:

“I usually get up to see the kids go to school. If I have nothing to do, I just relax.”

He also exercises, watches series, and spends time with his kids until they start to annoy him.

As he celebrates his achievements, Usain Bolt remains an iconic figure in the world of sports, despite the new challenges he faces in everyday life. His words about the consequences of life at the top of the athletic world remind us of the importance of taking care of one’s health even after the most successful moments. Watching his adaptation to the new living conditions, we can only congratulate him on his accomplishments and support him in his new endeavors.
