Beckham talks about the changes in Salford City

According to The Sun: David Beckham shared information about the 'terrible' situation that led to changes in Salford City club to avoid 'serious problems'.

In May, Salford entered a new phase of ownership when a new consortium took over the management of the club after more than 10 years under the control of 'Class of 92'.

Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville, and Paul Scholes decided to sell their stakes in the club along with the main shareholder Peter Lim, enabling a new consortium led by Neville and Beckham.

Neville, who has been actively involved in the club since his initial investment in 2014, reached out to Beckham for support when he felt things were declining.

Together they brought in businessmen Declan Kelly and Lord Mervyn Davies to form a new management team, which includes 23 investors and partners such as AIG and Coca-Cola.

Beckham spoke about these changes in an interview with The Athletic, noting that he was 'worried' when Neville asked him for help.

“I hardly ever panic, but when Gary told me: ‘Alright, here’s the situation, we need to find a way to save the club’, I was concerned,”

he said.

“It is important for him, as Gary has been committed to Salford from the very beginning.'

Beckham emphasized how important this club is for Neville and his commitment, especially in tough times.

They were given two years to raise approximately £10 million to improve the financial situation due to obligations to staff and high maintenance costs.

Beckham reported that they managed to raise capital in less than five months - actually between £22.3 million to £30 million thanks to new investors.

Beckham noted that interested investors brought emotions to Neville.

“When we hit that number, Gary became very emotional. It is something that matters to him, and it is a passion you want to see.'

Beckham, who is also a co-owner of Inter Miami in MLS, plans to attend the Salford game against Swindon Town with other members of the ownership group.

Declan Kelly, who plans to actively participate in the management of the club, understands that this is just the beginning of the work.

“Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face,'
Kelly noted, adding that they are ready for any challenges that come their way.

Kelly emphasized that their ambitions are big, but it is important to move forward gradually, despite the attention on their team due to the famous names.
