After retiring in 2023, Baker found himself in a difficult situation, lacking purpose. He didn’t consider himself depressed, but his close ones noticed changes. A feeling of emptiness overwhelmed him, and days without activities became a real challenge.
Even during his visit to the 2024 US Open as a caddy for Robert Rock, the issue of lacking motivation remained unresolved.
“I would say it changed my life. I had no purpose. Nothing to wake up for,” Baker noted.
The situation became such that he barely left the house and lost touch with friends.

The Path to Officiating
Participating in the 'Transition from Player to Referee' program became a true salvation for him. Baker began spending time on the soccer field as a referee, finding a new purpose in life.
“It’s probably the last thing I would have thought about,” he remarked.
He has already officiated over 40 matches and is diligently working on a new career that he had never imagined.
