According to The Sun: The legendary skateboard of Tony Hawk, on which he performed an incredible trick during the X Games in 1999, was sold at auction for $1.15 million.

This outstanding skateboarder completed 900 degrees in the air, which was a historic moment in the world of skateboarding.

Tony Hawk, 57, urged the public before the auction to find a new owner who would truly appreciate this item. He noted:

“I hope it will be someone who really appreciates this item or for whom this object had meaning, and not just a measure of them having money.”

He also added:

“I would be thrilled if it were someone who had a connection to skateboarding or maybe they would display this board somewhere for others to see.”

The 900 trick is a spin of 2.5 rotations (900 degrees) performed on a skateboard ramp.

After performing the trick, Hawk stated: “This is the best day of my life.” In addition, he won gold in the “Vert Doubles” category alongside Andy Macdonald.

The auction took place at Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles on September 23, and bidding reached an impressive sum of $1.15 million, nearly double the initial estimates of $500,000 to $700,000.

Other items related to the 900 trick were also sold at the auction, including Hawk’s helmet for $115,200 and his sneakers for $64,000. His knee pads also found a new owner for an impressive $57,600.

Hawk stated that all proceeds from the auction would go to support his non-profit organization, the Skatepark Project.

The organization was founded in 2002 to promote the building of public skateparks for youth in underserved communities.

Tony Hawk, known as “The Birdman,” has approximately $140 million in net worth.

In June, a famous skateboarding spot under the Brooklyn Bridge that Hawk loves reopened after 15 years of closure.

Skateboarding made its debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and will be featured again at the Paris 2024 Games, with Hawk in the audience during Keegan Palmer's performance in the men's park and Arisa Trew's performance in the women's park, who both won gold.

This sport is also included in the program for the 2028 Olympic Games to be held in Los Angeles, with competitions expected to take place at the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area in San Fernando Valley.

This park is the second largest city park in Los Angeles and has both indoor and outdoor sports facilities.
