Steven Bunting swapped shoes at the darts tournament: what's the reason.
Bunting defends his shoes in competitions
According to The Sun: Steven Bunting chose spiked shoes to keep his expensive sneakers safe at tournaments.
In the second round of the Swiss Trophy of Darts, he managed to come back from a 0-2 deficit and defeated Chris Landman 6-3, showing an average level of play of 99.18 and hitting three 180s.
Phil Lanning MediaThe 40-year-old player from St Helens has become a real leader of the season, winning the International Open Tournament, two World Series titles, and two Player Championship trophies.
However, all eyes were on his new spiked shoes as Bunting commented on his choice at the big competition.
“These are expensive shoes. But I’ve played in expensive shoes without spikes, and they started to wear out.”
“So I decided to use spikes so that they don’t wear down and last much longer.”
“And if someone insults me, they’ll get one of them in the back.”
Bunting also felt relieved as he managed to come back after losing 5-6 to Tibor Trikolya, missing EIGHT match darts, at the previous trophy in Hungary.
“I know it’s in me. I was very frustrated last week in Budapest, it hurt me.”
“I thought it would take me some time to get over it. When you get into a rut, everything goes wrong.”
Bunting praised the Swiss fans after his victory.
“We travel all over the world playing darts, and it’s an absolute pleasure to come to Switzerland. I love being here.”
“I remember how the Swiss fans supported me, from the days of the BDO to today, and I am endlessly grateful for that.”
“Loads of ducks, loads of Bunting hats, and loads of absolutely ridiculous people in green, thank you for coming and supporting me. It means a lot to me.”
Thus, Bunting demonstrated not only his athletic talents but also a creative approach to competitions. The use of spiked shoes has become not only a practical choice but also a part of his personal style. The Swiss fans who support him every step of the way clearly inspire the athlete to achieve new heights in darts, promising an exciting continuation of the season.
