McIlroy Removed DeChambeau's Name from the Ryder Cup Table: A New Chapter in Their Rivalry.
The McIlroy-DeChambeau Standoff Continues
According to The Sun: The conflict between Rory McIlroy and American golf star Bryson DeChambeau flared up again after Europe's victory at the Ryder Cup on Sunday.
Both players had been actively exchanging criticism for months, so fans eagerly awaited whether they would resume their rivalry during the competition at Bethpage Black.
McIlroy commented on DeChambeau, covering his name with a flag.
Both athletes displayed strong emotions during the tournament: McIlroy yelled at a spectator, while others were expelled for insults directed at him and his wife, Erica.
DeChambeau, in turn, got into a public spat with Tommy Fleetwood and his teammate.
Uncontrollable Emotions at the Ryder Cup
But after Europe's victory at the Ryder Cup, the conflict between the players escalated once again. McIlroy was spotted jokingly covering DeChambeau's name with an EU flag during his team's celebration, egged on by the crowd and teammate Matt Fitzpatrick.
This conflict started when McIlroy suffered a defeat at the US Open last year. DeChambeau capitalized on the situation as McIlroy lost three strokes on the last four holes, allowing the American to win.
Reportedly, McIlroy left the course without congratulating his opponent, although he later did so via his Instagram account.
During the buildup to 'The Match' last December, a competition between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, the conflict flared up again.
The two players met on the course before the event, and McIlroy told a broadcaster:
“I would like to face Bryson and get back at him for what he did to me at the US Open.”
To which DeChambeau replied:
“To be honest, you did it to yourself.”
Challenges in McIlroy's Personal Life
Rory McIlroy has had sensational romantic relationships, including one with former world number one tennis player Caroline Wozniacki, which ended in divorce in 2014.
The following year, McIlroy began dating Erica Stoll, whom he met at the PGA Tour in 2011.
Erica served as a volunteer manager at PGA championships, which formed the basis for their friendship and later romantic relationship.
McIlroy and Erica were married at Ashford Castle in Ireland in 2017 and became parents to daughter Poppy three years later.
After seven years of marriage, McIlroy filed for divorce, but they later managed to resolve their differences and continued their life together.
McIlroy has secured 44 professional wins, including five major tournaments, while DeChambeau has 14 wins, two of which are majors. As of today, McIlroy's net worth is estimated at £260 million, while DeChambeau has around £145 million. Notably, McIlroy owns several luxury properties around the world.
