Latvian UN Ambassador Details Iranian Drone Transfers to Russia and Impact on Ukraine.
Iranian Weapons Supply to Russia
According to Novyny.live: Latvia's Ambassador to the UN, Sanita Pavluta-Deslandes, has stated that Iran's supply of weapons to Russia has resulted in the deaths of thousands of Ukrainians. She emphasized that Tehran has provided Moscow with over 50,000 'Shahed' drones. Pavluta-Deslandes declared,
“Iran is supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine”and noted that
“like Russia in Ukraine, Iran is now sowing terror among civilians in Gulf countries”. This large-scale transfer of Iranian drones has significantly impacted the battlefield in Ukraine, where they are used for strikes on civilian infrastructure.
On February 28 at 23:00 Kyiv time, an emergency UN meeting was convened to address the situation in the Middle East. This session was a response to the escalating conflict in the region, specifically retaliatory strikes Israel carried out on Tehran that same day. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz described these actions as a 'preemptive attack' with the codename 'Lion's Roar'.
Simultaneously, Iran has also conducted attacks against Israel and American bases in Gulf countries. The regional situation remains tense, with the international community continuing to highlight the threats arising from weapons proliferation and expanding military conflicts.
The transfer of Iranian weaponry to Russia underscores a complex geopolitical landscape fueled by concurrent wars. It also signals deepening military cooperation between Tehran and Moscow, which could have serious implications for security in both Europe and the Middle East. The international community is closely monitoring these developments, as further escalation threatens global peace and stability.
