Shtivi died at the Nova music festival during events on October 7, 2023, according to the IDF.
He attempted to escape with two friends, but lost control of the car, which crashed into a tree.
The car was later found riddled with bullet holes.
Shtivi's body was captured by Hamas and remained in Gaza for 693 days.
His family had hoped he might be alive but received a message about his death shortly before the first anniversary of the attack.
“Idan Shtivi was kidnapped from the Tel Gamma area and brutally killed by Hamas terrorists after attempting to rescue and evacuate others from the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023. At the time of his death, he was 28 years old.”
According to Israeli sources, there are 48 hostages remaining in Gaza, of which only 20 are likely still alive.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Friday: “The campaign to return the hostages continues unabated. We will not stop and will not hide until we bring all our hostages home — alive and dead.”
Another body found during a 'complex rescue operation' in Gaza has already been identified as Ilan Weiss, 56, who died defending his community in Kibbutz Beeri during the attacks on October 7.
These attacks resulted in approximately 1,200 people being killed, and about 251 hostages were captured.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, more than 63,000 Palestinians have died during subsequent attacks by Israel.
Increased pressure on Israel due to humanitarian situation
Israeli forces have initiated 'initial stages' of the assault on Gaza.
A spokesperson for the IDF stated on Friday: “We will intensify our strikes and will not stop until we bring back all those captured and until Hamas is dismantled militarily and politically.”
However, international pressure on Israel is increasing due to the humanitarian disaster in Gaza.
The UN warns that about one million people could find themselves in a situation of emigration again.
Officially declaring famine in Gaza for the first time.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for an immediate ceasefire “to avoid death and destruction.”
The scale of suffering in Gaza has caused previously neutral countries to recognize the Palestinian state, including France, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.
Israel asserts that plans for an attack on Gaza are the only way to overcome Hamas.
