Extension of temporary protection for Ukrainians in Italy

According to ТСН: At the end of 2025, Italy decided to extend the temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens. This applies to those who already have a residence permit on humanitarian grounds. Such extension will allow Ukrainians to legally stay in the country, work, and access social services.

Ukrainians in Italy will be able to renew their residence permits under temporary protection until March 2027. This decision was a response to changes in the European Union's policy.

The residence permit (Permesso di soggiorno), which expires on March 4, 2026, can be renewed according to the new decree.

To renew, it is necessary to make an appointment with the office of the Department of Public Security (Questura). Appointments will begin in January 2026.

It is advisable not to delay with the paperwork, as there may be a heavy workload in migration services at the beginning of the year.

Those Ukrainians who continue their temporary protection will have access to medical services, education for children, as well as the opportunity to work and receive social benefits.

Italy is also continuing financial support for newly arrived Ukrainian refugees. For three months, an individual can receive €300, as well as an additional €150 for each minor child.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that serious changes are taking place in Germany's migration policy, which may affect Ukrainian refugees.

Thus, the extension of temporary protection in Italy becomes an important step for Ukrainians who find themselves in a difficult situation. This decision not only ensures their rights but also reinforces the solidarity of the European Union in combating the consequences of crisis situations. However, Ukrainians should be aware of changes in the migration policies of other countries, which may open new opportunities or, conversely, create additional challenges.
