Ferguson, regarded as one of the greatest managers in history, won 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, and two Champions League trophies during his 27 years at the helm of Manchester United.
Since his retirement in 2013, Ferguson has faced several tragic events in his life. His wife, Lady Cathy, died at the age of 84 almost two years ago, after 58 years together.
The loss of Cathy has left a huge void in Ferguson's life. He is also going through a difficult period related to his younger brother Martin's dementia diagnosis.
“Martin recognizes me, but his memory is not very good, and that is always on my mind,” he noted in a conversation with BBC Breakfast.
Ferguson shared his feelings: “I try to call him every day, but sometimes I can't because of my busyness.”
Reflecting on the death of Lady Cathy, Sir Alex said: “After my wife's death, I spent a lot of time at home. I moved to a village near my son, but sitting at home watching television is not very good. So I decided to travel. I've been to Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, and Bahrain.”
“Engaging with a group of people who suffer from dementia has been helpful for me. It's something I enjoy,” he added.id='6378509271112' data-video-id='6378509271112' data-account='5067014667001' data-player='default' data-usage='cms:WordPress:6.5.6:2.8.6:javascript' data-embed='default' class='video-js' data-application-id='' controls style='width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute; top: 0; bottom: 0; right: 0; left: 0;'>
These confessions shed light on another side of Sir Alex Ferguson's life, who, despite his achievements on the football field, faces personal difficulties. His experiences serve as a reminder of the importance of supporting loved ones in tough times, as well as how vital it is to find ways to cope with grief and not to isolate oneself.
