According to The Sun: Raymond van Barneveld was criticized by Vincent van der Voort for the awkward handshake with Gary Anderson at the World Grand Prix tournament.

Two-time world champion Anderson demonstrated impressive gameplay with an average of 90.06 and an incredible finish of 115, defeating 'Barney' 2-1.

Seven-time dart tournament winner Anderson celebrated by throwing his darts into the crowd while van Barneveld remained at the table, picking up his darts and ignoring what was happening.

As the Dutchman approached, Anderson was already engaging with fans, so van Barneveld had to thank the referees before leaving the stage.

Van der Voort believes that van Barneveld is to blame for the incident.

“It’s completely Raymond’s fault. Anderson threw his darts, walked to the board and back,” he noted. “And Raymond was still standing at his table, packing his things and not looking at anyone.”

Van der Voort added that the handshake is an important element of sports ethics, where the winner receives congratulations from the loser.

“Raymond should go over to Anderson, shake his hand, shake the referees' hands, pack his things and leave the stage. That’s the principle,” he emphasized.

Van der Voort also noted that he understands Anderson's actions, who did not stay put.

This incident, according to Van der Voort, created an awkward atmosphere as other players had already noticed van Barneveld's behavior.

Van Barneveld, who is ranked 34th in the world, last reached the semifinals in a major tournament in 2022 and has not made it to the quarterfinals at Ally Pally in the past seven years.

“He no longer has that confidence that once made him invincible,” said van der Voort. “Now he looks more uncertain on stage, hoping more than actually believing in his victory,”

This incident underscores important aspects of sports ethics and respect in darts. In particular, the role of the handshake as a symbol of honor and recognition of an opponent's achievements remains unchanged. At the same time, it highlights the challenges van Barneveld is facing in his career, as his former confidence during games seems to be starting to wane.
