Israel has started to withdraw its troops from Gaza
On Sunday, February 9, Israeli forces began to pull out their troops from a key corridor in Gaza, fulfilling their commitments under the ceasefire agreement with Hamas.
According to AP, citing Israeli officials, as part of the truce, Israel agreed to withdraw troops from the 6-kilometer Nezarim corridor - a strip of land between the northern and southern parts of Gaza, which had been used as a military zone during the war.
With the onset of the truce, Israel allowed Palestinians to cross Nezarim and return to their homes in the northern enclave. The withdrawal of troops from this area is yet another commitment that Israel must fulfill under the ceasefire agreement.
Witnesses report that on Sunday, vehicles loaded with belongings, including water tanks and suitcases, were heading north to Gaza, crossing the border via the Nezarim road. According to the agreement, Israel was supposed to allow vehicles to cross the border without inspection by the military.
Currently, Israeli officials are not disclosing how many soldiers are being withdrawn from Gaza. Troops remain along the borders of the enclave with Israel and Egypt. Negotiations for the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops will take place at a later stage of the truce.
At the moment, both parties are preparing for negotiations regarding the next stage of the ceasefire agreement. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sent a delegation to Qatar, which acts as a mediator in negotiations between the parties. However, the composition of the delegation is at a lower level, which may not lead to progress in extending the truce.
Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to convene a meeting of key cabinet ministers dedicated to discussing the second stage of the agreement, but the exact date is unknown.
