Jack Wilshere could lead Luton: first job as head coach.
Jack Wilshere could secure his first permanent managerial contract
According to The Sun: Jack Wilshere, former Arsenal star, has a good chance to land his first permanent managerial position. He is actively seeking new opportunities, having turned down an offer from Norwich City.
GettyThe 33-year-old Wilshere was rejected by the Canaries, who opted for former Bristol City manager Liam Manning. However, the ex-midfielder is undeterred and even declined the chance to return to Arsenal as an academy coach to keep his options open.
Currently, he is considered the favorite for the vacant position at Luton Town, who recently sacked Matt Bloomfield. The club is in 11th place in League One.
Matt Bloomfield left Luton with five wins, one draw, and five losses, although at the start of the season his team was among the favorites for promotion.
Bookmakers Coral already consider Wilshere the frontrunner, giving him odds of 4-5.
“Jack Wilshere is now on track to secure his first permanent managerial role at Luton,”
– noted Coral representative John Hill.
However, Jack will have to compete with former Southampton manager Russell Martin, who was recently sacked by Rangers. Recently, he has also been linked with Luton.
Russell Martin's situation
The 39-year-old Martin was dismissed after a 1-1 draw with Falkirk in the Scottish Premiership. Under his management, the team played 17 matches, winning only five, with just one victory in the league.
Despite having more managerial experience, the failure at Rangers negatively impacted his reputation, especially after being sacked in 2024 from St. Mary's with only one win in 16 matches.
Luton Town recently played in the Premier League, but after a disappointing season last year, they find themselves back in League One.
PA In the coming days, the situation regarding the vacancy at Luton Town may develop actively due to potential appointments of new managers. The recent events surrounding Jack Wilshere and Russell Martin highlight the uncertainty that prevails in the world of football management, where even former stars can face difficulties in coaching positions.Read also
