Cyberattack on Jaguar Land Rover: Production halt costs the company £120 million.
Jaguar Land Rover Production Halt
According to The Sun: Jaguar Land Rover forecasts losses of £120 million due to the continued production halt until September 24.
The largest automaker in the UK has suspended operations at its plants due to a cyberattack.
The production lines remain halted, and employees are currently advised not to return to work.
The company usually manufactures around 1,000 vehicles daily at its plants in Halewood, Solihull, and Wolverhampton.
Professor David Bailey from Birmingham Business School noted that such a halt will significantly impact the company's profits, especially in the current challenging period.
“The value of the cars typically produced at these plants amounts to about £1.7 billion, so there will not be an equivalent of cars produced to that value, and I estimate that the initial impact on profits will be £120 million.”
“Some portion of these losses may be compensated, but the longer this lasts, the more concerning it will be.”
“If the reports are correct and this could last until November, it could mean that approximately 50,000 cars will not be produced.”
JLR management plans to meet with representatives from the Department for Business and Trade to discuss the possibility of financial support for companies in the supply chain.
The Unite union also warned that thousands of workers may lose their jobs.
It has called for the introduction of a government financial support program while the company does not resume operations.
Jaguar Land Rover anticipates losses of £120 million after the continued halt of operations until September 24.This situation jeopardizes not only Jaguar Land Rover's financial performance but also the jobs of thousands of employees. The company has already turned to the government for help to mitigate the negative consequences of the production halt. The developments are expected to remain in focus as the ramifications of the cyberattack persist and may impact the entire industry.
