Up to 500,000 UAH in Compensation for Destroyed Homes: Inside Ukraine’s Housing Recovery Program.
Compensation for Damaged Housing in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainians whose homes have been damaged or destroyed by enemy shelling can seek state compensation through the 'eRecovery' program. Launched by the Ukrainian government, this initiative outlines varying payment amounts for apartments and houses based on the extent of damage.
Under Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 381, dated April 21, 2023, the procedure for calculating compensation for damaged housing was established. These payments fall into two categories:
- Category A: If the calculated compensation does not exceed 200,000 hryvnias, victims may receive up to that amount.
- Category B: This covers scenarios where the calculated compensation ranges from 200,000 to 350,000 hryvnias for apartments and from 200,000 to 500,000 hryvnias for single-family homes. The minimum possible payout is 97.24 hryvnias, while the maximum for a damaged apartment is 350,000 hryvnias and for a damaged house is 500,000 hryvnias.
Compensation for Destroyed Homes
Additionally, Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 600, dated May 30, 2023, approved the rules for compensating completely destroyed homes. This compensation is determined using the cost per square meter, a regional coefficient, the number of rooms, the year the building was commissioned, and its total area. The eligible maximum area is 150 square meters for apartments and 200 square meters for detached houses.
This program represents a major step in restoring housing for Ukrainians affected by the war, aiming to provide crucial support during a difficult period.
The 'eRecovery' initiative is part of the Ukrainian government’s broader effort to rebuild infrastructure and living conditions for citizens impacted by military conflict. It not only helps offset material losses but also works to restore social stability in regions that have suffered the heaviest destruction. Successful implementation of this program could significantly influence the country’s housing stock recovery and improve the lives of those facing hardship.
