Fight Details

The fight will take place on November 14 in Miami. Due to a weight difference of 5 stones, this match cannot be professionally sanctioned and will not count towards official results.

Initially, it was planned to box with 12-ounce gloves, with Paul not allowed to weigh more than 195 pounds, and the fight lasting ten rounds of three minutes each. However, Davis’s trainer, Calvin Ford, suggested changing the rules to allow boxing with 10-ounce gloves, which sparked a controversy.

Paul, 28, noted:

“You guys wanted 12-ounce gloves, not me. I can box in eights. Hell, I can box in fours, I can in twos. I can even go without gloves.”

Davis, 30, countered:

“No, that wasn’t it.”

Paul continued:

“Alright. So what do you want – ten-ounce? Yeah, 10 ounces? Great, that works for me, so we’re back to what I always wanted — 10 ounces.”

Paul confirmed that he has evidence that Davis's team requested heavier 12-ounce gloves. He summed up:

“Let’s make it happen, that’ll be great. It’ll make the fight more exciting for the fans. Thank God, I wanted 10-ounce for a really long time. Let’s do it.”

At the end of the press conference, Davis and Paul made a bet of $2 million (£1.5 million) and even shook hands. However, just a few hours later, Davis seemed to back out of the bet, writing online:

“He will never get those two million… I don’t care what happens.”

Paul secured a victory over former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in June, which brought him to 14th place in the WBA cruiserweight rankings. Meanwhile, Davis drew with Lamont Roach in March and declined a rematch to instead face Paul.
