Shakur Stevenson will help Jake Paul prepare for the fight against Davis: details.
Jake Paul is preparing a team of sparring partners for the fight against Gervonta Davis
According to The Sun: Jake Paul intends to form a team of elite sparring partners, all left-handed fighters, to prepare for the encounter with Gervonta Davis.
The fight between Paul and WBA lightweight champion Davis will take place on November 14 in Miami.
GettyPaul's height is 6 feet 1 inch, while Davis is 5 feet 5 inches, and weighs five stones less.
This is why Paul is bringing in smaller sparring partners to adapt to different fighting styles.
Additionally, he reported that the undefeated WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, who is a long-time rival of Davis, will also join his training camp.
“As for the sparring, we have great guys. Experienced left-handed fighters who are smaller in size,” said Paul.
- “I think Montano Love will join us, Shakur Stevenson wants to come, we are in touch with Jhamain Ortiz, and Erickson Lubin as well.”
- “We will bring in a lot of fast and aggressive left-handed fighters.”
Ortiz, a 29-year-old lightweight boxer, has 19 wins, 2 losses, and one draw. Lubin, also 29, competes in the super middleweight division and fought for the WBC title in 2022 but lost in the ninth round.
Love, a 30-year-old super lightweight, remained undefeated in 19 fights but lost his last two.
Stevenson, 30, is a well-known name in the boxing world, and he reached out to Paul's team offering sparring to prepare for the fight against Davis.
“I think he wants to see how good I am and how I match up against Tank,” Paul stated.
Paul competes in the 200-pound category, while Davis is a champion in the 135-pound range. Due to the significant size difference, the fight will not have professional status and will not count on their records.
However, Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, confirmed that the winner WILL be announced.
Three judges will score the fight from ringside, knockouts are allowed in ten rounds lasting three minutes each. Paul cannot exceed a weight of 195 pounds, and during the fight, 12-ounce gloves will be used, and there will be drug testing.
However, both boxers agreed to reduce the glove weight to 10 ounces after a dispute at a press conference in Florida.
