Former England cricket player John Jameson has passed away
According to The Sun: Former England cricket player John Jameson has died at the age of 84.
Jameson made his debut in tests against India in 1971 and played three more matches.
GettyThe England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) issued a statement following his death.
“The ECB is saddened to learn of the death of former England men's test cricketer John Jameson at the age of 84. “In Warwickshire, where he opened batting alongside good friend Denis Amiss, he was regarded as an indispensable member of the team. “He helped his county win the championship title in 1972, and in a match against Gloucestershire in 1974, formed part of a record second wicket partnership that accumulated 465 runs alongside Rohan Kanhai. “‘It was one of those days when everything went right,’ he said. ‘We just kept going, and neither of us even gave the opposition a chance. We had to declare after 100 overs, and that was probably even better.’ “He played four test matches for England, with a highest score of 82. But he was unfortunate to be the first English batsman to be run out twice in a single match. “In 1976, he retired to become the head coach at Taunton School. He also umpired (1984-87), coached Sussex (1988), served as deputy secretary of the MCC (1989), and was awarded an MBE in 2010 for services to cricket. “Our thoughts are with John’s family and friends.”
Jameson also served as a coach at Sussex and was appointed secretary of the MCC in 1989.
In 2010, he received the MBE for services to cricket.
