No Fixed Date for Ukraine's EU Accession, Says Kallas: Progress Depends on Both Sides.
Kaja Kallas Meets with the Press
According to Novyny.live: Speaking to journalists on March 31, Kaja Kallas—the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy—made clear that the timeline for Ukraine’s EU membership hinges on efforts from both Kyiv and Brussels. While she declined to give a specific date, Kallas expressed strong personal commitment to seeing Ukraine join the bloc as soon as possible.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also stressed the need for a clear timetable for accession. The discussion further touched on unblocking a €90 billion loan package for Ukraine.
I cannot give a concrete date, but it is certainly my interest and my wish for Ukraine to join the European Union soon. Kaja Kallas
In short, the next steps in Ukraine’s European integration path will depend both on Ukrainian reforms and on the EU’s readiness to move forward.
The Stakes of EU-Ukraine Cooperation
The statements from Kallas and Zelenskyy highlight how vital active collaboration between Ukraine and the EU remains in the integration process. At the same time, the lack of a fixed deadline may reflect the complexity of the undertaking, which demands continued work from all parties involved.
Unlocking financial aid is also critical for Ukraine, as it could help stabilize the economy and support the reforms needed to align with EU standards.
