When the results were revealed, Johnson-Thompson appeared somewhat uncertain about her feelings after the finish.

The star of the British team competed at the Japan National Stadium, where she experienced one of the most challenging moments of her career.

It was here, at the 67,750-seat stadium, that she suffered a calf injury during the Tokyo Olympics four years ago.

“You could see how emotions got the better of her,” said British heptathlon legend Jessica Ennis-Hill on BBC.

“I have never seen results be the same. The relief she must be feeling must be just enormous. We all knew she would come and fight in the 800 meters. She always goes beyond her limits.”
