The Ministry of Internal Affairs warns about a new scheme of scammers selling cars: how not to become a victim.
Criminals in Ukraine are currently exploiting the trust of buyers by offering low prices and displaying fake documents. However, the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Cyber Police have warned that there is no full official vehicle verification through the internet.
Be cautious when purchasing
According to inkorr.com: Sellers offering cars at suspiciously low prices send photos of documents and assure that the vehicle has passed all online checks. To appear more convincing, scammers use forged PDF files or fake links to 'government websites'.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes that no electronic document or extract from open sources confirms the real status of the vehicle. Official verification can only be conducted at the MIA service centers, where extracts from the registers will be provided, confirmation of the absence of encumbrances, and expert research on vehicles and documents will be conducted.
Safety when using online services
Experts advise avoiding suspicious resources and 'online services', even if they use the logos of government agencies. Reliable sources always have the domain 'gov.ua' or a verification badge on social media. If you come across questionable content, it is recommended to report it to the cyber police through an electronic request.
Intermediary services when purchasing a car can lead to fraud through deceptive 'online verifications'. The Ministry of Internal Affairs stresses the importance of official vehicle status verification in specialized service centers to avoid fraudulent schemes and fake documents.
The rise in cases of fraud in the car sales sector is caused by the popularization of online services. Therefore, it is important to be especially vigilant and not to rely solely on visual confirmations. Always verify information from official sources to avoid becoming a victim of criminals.
