Severe Storm Hits Kyiv: Fallen Trees, Flooding, and Power Outages.
June 29 Storm in Kyiv
According to Novyny.live: A powerful storm swept through Kyiv on June 29, causing widespread destruction. Heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and strong winds battered the capital, leading to fallen trees, toppled billboards, and flooded streets.
The storm uprooted trees, knocked down poles, and destroyed billboards. Revutskoho Street was especially hard hit, where insulation was torn from buildings. In several districts, trees crashed onto cars, creating additional hazards for drivers. On Stepan Bandera Avenue, a billboard collapsed, underscoring the ferocity of the wind and the intensity of the thunderstorm.
Aftermath of the Storm
Flooding affected roads and public transport, making it difficult for residents to get around. Parts of the left bank and Obolon experienced partial blackouts, causing disruptions to electricity supply. DTEK emergency crews have been placed on heightened alert to deal with the aftermath and restore power.
In light of these events, Kyiv residents are urged to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines during severe weather.
This storm serves as yet another reminder that climate change can trigger extreme weather events that impact infrastructure and daily life. Authorities and emergency services are already working to restore normal conditions, but residents should remain vigilant and cautious during similar weather events in the future.
