Smog Engulfs Kyiv Due to Fires and Shelling: How Long Will the Pollution Last?.
Air Quality Deteriorates in Kyiv and Surrounding Region
According to Novyny.live: Authorities have reported a sharp decline in air quality across Kyiv and the Kyiv region. The pollution stems from wildfires burning in local ecosystems combined with lingering combustion residues from Russian artillery strikes. This hazardous situation has raised public health concerns, as prolonged exposure to such conditions can lead to respiratory and cardiovascular complications.
Forecast for Improvement
Conditions are expected to improve by the afternoon, according to meteorologists. Moderate rainfall is predicted to help wash away airborne pollutants. Meanwhile, emergency crews continue clearing debris from a massive Russian missile attack launched overnight on July 2. On July 3, rescue workers recovered three more bodies from the rubble, bringing the total death toll to 30.
Officials urge residents to take the following precautions:
- Avoid prolonged time outdoors;
- Keep windows closed at all times;
- Only ventilate rooms once air quality has improved.
Special attention should be given to individuals with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions, as well as children and the elderly, who are more vulnerable to poor air quality.
The worsening air quality in Kyiv and the region underscores the critical need for ongoing environmental monitoring, especially during wartime, when pollution can stem from both natural sources and human activity. Cleanup operations following the shelling also contribute to the overall ecological strain on the area.
