Kyiv Metro Sets Anti-Record: Losses for Half a Year Reached 2.59 Billion UAH.
In the first half of 2025, the Kyiv metro recorded unprecedented losses amounting to 2.59 billion UAH. This has led to a noted record across all cities in Ukraine.
At the beginning of 2019, the revenue of the Kyiv metro was 3.39 billion UAH. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it significantly decreased, and with the onset of the war with Russia in 2022, it dropped even more. For the first half of 2025, the revenue amounted to 833.6 million UAH, which is 3.3% more than in the same period of 2024.
Compared to Kyiv, the Kharkiv metro has significantly lower indicators. At the end of 2025, its revenue was 65.7 million UAH, while in 2019, it was 1.28 billion UAH. It should also be noted that free travel in the metro has been in effect in Kharkiv since May 2022.
The Kyiv metro recorded unprecedented losses in the first half of 2025, which is the worst result among all cities in Ukraine. The revenue of the Kyiv metro decreased compared to previous years, but remains high compared to other cities in the country, such as Kharkiv.
