Sino-Russian Joint Military Exercises

According to Espreso.tv: China is set to conduct military exercises with Russia near the city of Qingdao, under the name 'Naval Interaction — 2026'. No further specifics or operational details have been disclosed. The drills will take place in both the maritime zone and the airspace surrounding the area.

Reports indicate that since July 2025, China has been training Russian military personnel for the war against Ukraine. These sessions were held at facilities in Beijing and Nanjing, with a focus on:

  • drones
  • electronic warfare
  • aviation
  • armored vehicles

The training agreement was classified, prohibiting any media coverage. European Union intelligence agencies have confirmed that among the Russian troops trained were members of the elite drone unit 'Rubicon'. In early July, Russia's Ministry of Defense approved secret military exercises on Chinese soil. The agreement was signed by Russian Major General Rustam Khusainov and Senior Colonel Sun Dayun of the People's Liberation Army of China. At least four Russian and Chinese generals participated in the exercises at PLA facilities.

Geopolitical Implications

These exercises highlight the deepening military cooperation between China and Russia, which is becoming increasingly significant amid shifting global geopolitical dynamics. As tensions rise between the West and these two nations, joint military activities may signal their intent to strengthen their positions on the world stage. Analysts note that such actions could have repercussions not only for the region but also for international security at large.
