Beijing Rejects Claims of Supplying Missile Parts to Russia.
China's Response to Western Media Reports
According to TSN.ua: Beijing has formally addressed allegations from Western media outlets concerning the supply of Chinese components for Russian ballistic missile production. A spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakun, held a briefing to refute accusations of military support for Russia, stating China does not seek to profit from the war in Ukraine. This statement comes amid ongoing international scrutiny of trade between the two nations.
China's Declared Position on the Conflict
Guo Jiakun asserted that China does not militarily support either side in the conflict, officially maintaining a neutral stance and providing no military aid to Ukraine or Russia. He emphasized that China's position on the Ukrainian crisis has been consistent and unambiguous:
“We are not adding fuel to the fire, nor are we exploiting this conflict for our own gain,” stated Guo Jiakun.
Despite these assurances, reports emerged in 2023 that China had considered shipping batches of 122-mm and 152-mm artillery shells to Russia. Furthermore, Ukrainian forces discovered Chinese-made mortar shells near Melitopol. These instances have raised further questions about China's role in the conflict and its relationship with Russia.
The situation surrounding China and its ties with Russia remains tense, particularly in light of Western sanctions and the global political landscape. China is attempting to balance its support for a strategic partner with its declared neutral position, a stance that could significantly impact its international reputation and economic interests. Meanwhile, continued investigations and reporting may shape global perceptions of China as a key player in the context of the Ukraine war.
