Ukraine's Parliament Weighs New Penalties and Restrictions for Draft Evaders.
Lawmakers Explore Fresh Measures to Compel Military Compliance
According to Novyny.live: Discussions are heating up in Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada over potential new mechanisms to target citizens who avoid military registration and mobilization. Proposed measures include financial penalties and curbs on access to state services. One option under review involves additional restrictions that could affect notary services.
Currently, Territorial Recruitment Centers (TCCs) have the authority to petition courts to suspend driving privileges for individuals dodging their military duties. Since the onset of the full-scale war, 135 such court cases have been filed. However, rulings have favored the TCCs in only ten instances, highlighting the challenges of enforcing these measures.
Parliamentary Committee and Expert Efforts
Vadym Ivchenko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada committee, has confirmed that work on new accountability mechanisms is ongoing. Introducing additional restrictions could represent a key step in bolstering military mobilization and ensuring citizens fulfill their obligations. As part of the debate, experts emphasize the need to refine existing tools to boost their effectiveness.
Accordingly, the agenda for the Rada's upcoming plenary sessions includes significant changes that could substantially reshape Ukraine's mobilization and draft registration systems.
This push for new measures against those evading military service marks a critical phase given Ukraine's current wartime realities. Facing serious challenges, the Verkhovna Rada is striving to identify efficient ways to enforce citizens' military duties, which could impact overall mobilization levels. The outcomes of these discussions may define the state's next steps in defense and security policy.
