Zelensky Signals Readiness for Direct Talks with Putin.
Open to Negotiation
According to Espreso.tv: Speaking at a joint press conference in Kyiv alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated he is prepared to engage in direct negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin to bring an end to the war in Ukraine. He declared,
“I am ready to hold direct talks with Putin to end this war, rather than waiting in line.”
Global Focus Shifts and Ukraine’s Position
Zelensky also noted that Ukraine is no longer at the center of international attention, emphasizing that
“in my view, Iran is the number one issue for the United States of America.”The president added that Ukraine now finds itself “in the queue of these wars.”
On January 22, Steve Witkoff, then-special envoy for former U.S. President Donald Trump, promised to visit Kyiv “soon.” Additionally, the U.S. president had previously proposed a free trade zone for Ukraine.
Zelensky’s openness to direct dialogue with Putin may reflect Ukraine’s desire to pursue a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, particularly as global attention on the country wanes. At the same time, his reference to Iran’s heightened importance for the United States underscores a shift in global priorities that could shape the trajectory of the war. These developments are likely to influence the next steps taken by both Ukrainian authorities and the broader international community.
