101 million embezzled on firewood for the Armed Forces of Ukraine: what scheme the investigators revealed.
According to inkorr.com: The Independent Investigation Service has completed its pre-trial investigation against the former head of the housing and communal services department in Luhansk and his team. According to the reports obtained, a group of individuals embezzled over 101 million hryvnias while obtaining fuel wood for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
'As a result of the investigation, the illegal scheme was organized by the former head of the housing and communal services department in Luhansk and his subordinates. They involved two officials from a unit currently located in Dnipro, as well as a private entrepreneur. The participants of the scheme purchased fuel wood amounting to more than 66 thousand cubic meters at inflated prices, bypassing the open bidding procedure. Contracts were concluded with intermediaries,' the Bureau reported.
There were 47 documented cases of purchases at inflated prices. The total amount of damages inflicted on the state exceeds 101 million hryvnias. Investigators found that the funds passed through the accounts of individuals, effectively controlled by the perpetrators.
Searches and Evidence Seizures
During the investigation, 28 searches were conducted, during which documents, computer equipment, mobile phones, and more than 70 judicial examinations were ordered. All five participants of the scheme are accused of unlawfully appropriating someone else's property by abusing official position in conditions of martial law on a large scale. The law prescribes a punishment of up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property. Property of the accused has already been seized to reimburse the damages incurred by the state.
Thus, the State Bureau of Investigations has completed the investigation of the criminal scheme of misappropriating funds during the procurement of fuel wood for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Involved individuals can expect serious judicial consequences, including imprisonment and confiscation of property.
Completion of the investigation of this case is an important step in the fight against corruption, especially in wartime conditions. It confirms that state authorities are actively working to identify and punish those who seek to profit from the country's misfortune. Further judicial processes and outcomes of the case may significantly influence public attitudes toward corruption crimes, as violations of the law during wartime are now perceived particularly acutely.Read also
