The sabre team won Ukraine's first "gold" at the Paris Olympics.
Today, August 3, the Ukrainian sabre fencers defeated the South Korean team in the final of the Olympic Games. This result brought Ukraine its third medal of the 2024 Olympics and its first "gold" in Paris.
Olga Kharlan, Alina Komashchuk, Olena Kravatska, and Yulia Bakastova performed at a high level in the team tournament. The final saw a close fight. At the end of the match, Olga Kharlan brilliantly conducted the final bout and brought Ukraine an overall victory of 45-42.
It is worth noting that the team award became the sixth Olympic medal for the leader of our team, Olga Kharlan.
Let us remind you that Kharlan is the 2008 Olympic champion and the silver medalist of the 2016 Olympic Games in team events, the bronze medalist of the 2012, 2016, and 2024 Olympic Games in individual events, a six-Time world champion (2013, 2014, 2017, 2019 in individual events, 2009 and 2013 in team events), and the eight-time European champion (2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2019 in individual events, 2009 and 2010 in team events).
Recall that in the quarterfinals of the Olympics, the Ukrainian athletes confidently defeated the Italian team, and in the semifinals they crushed the Japanese team.
