Dollar exchange rate in August 2025: should we expect growth to 42.50 UAH and when to buy foreign currency.
Before purchasing foreign currency, including US dollars, Ukrainians monitor the situation in the financial market. The exchange rate may change due to decisions made by the National Bank and geopolitical events. In August 2025, the dollar exchange rate remains stable, although the results of negotiations with Russia may affect its dynamics.
According to Novyny.LIVE, forecasts regarding the future dollar exchange rate in Ukraine have been revealed.
Forecasts for the dollar exchange rate in August
Since April 2025, the exchange rate has not dropped below 41.08 UAH/dollar, but it has not reached the psychological level of 42 UAH either. The situation in the foreign exchange market is explained by the monetary policy of the National Bank and the strengthening of the euro after customs tariffs in the USA.
Expert Oleksii Plotnikov noted that sudden fluctuations should not be expected. The demand for foreign currency remains moderate, which is typical for the summer period. Additionally, due to active exports of agricultural products, the supply of foreign currency is increasing.
'There are no grounds to expect a sudden increase in the dollar exchange rate in the near future from the perspective of demand and supply. However, an important factor is the results of Trump’s negotiations with Putin that may affect the stability of the exchange rate in Ukraine.'
Expert Danylo Monin believes that the dollar exchange rate will correlate with the euro rate. In case of currency strengthening, crossing the psychological boundary to 42.50 UAH/dollar may occur. If the dollar weakens, the National Bank will keep it below 42 UAH/dollar.
Advice on purchasing foreign currency
Experts advise against rushing to exchange currency when a small sum has been accumulated. Purchasing foreign currency is a form of investment, so it is important to achieve a certain level of financial stability to avoid the need to suddenly liquidate currency due to insufficient funds for living expenses.
According to Oleksii Plotnikov, before starting to buy dollars/euros, one should accumulate an amount equal to at least three salaries. And preferably six.
'If a person is suddenly laid off, they should have money for three months to search for a new job. Having such a financial cushion allows one to start investing in foreign currency or risky types of business.'
For example, if an average citizen’s income is 25,000 UAH per month, the financial cushion should be around 75,000 UAH. This amount should be saved for a 'rainy day,' while the rest can be spent on investments in foreign currency.
Other important details
It is worth remembering that there are large denomination banknotes, such as 500, 1000, 5000, and 10,000 dollars. They can be exchanged, but not used. These banknotes stopped being printed over 80 years ago and have gone into collectors' hands.
It is also important to consider that old-style dollar banknotes are gradually being phased out of circulation. Often cash issued from 1996 to 2006 is not accepted without additional fees. Furthermore, over time, the money wears out, so it can simply be submitted for collection.
Events in the financial market indicate a consistently stable dollar exchange rate in Ukraine in August 2025. Experts advise Ukrainians not to rush into purchasing foreign currency, using an investment approach to this procedure. Additionally, it is important to have a financial reserve before working with foreign currency to ensure the stability of one's financial situation.Read also
