Euro may fall below 48 hryvnias: what to expect from the exchange rate in August.
The official exchange rate of the hryvnia to the euro in Ukraine changes daily depending on the dynamics of the dollar-euro currency pair. Due to the agreement between the USA and the EU regarding mutual import tariffs, changes are possible that could lead to a decrease in the euro price and a drop in the exchange rate below the psychological barrier.
Economic expert Danilo Monin commented for Novyny.LIVE on the expected dynamics of the euro exchange rate in August 2025.
Euro Exchange Rate Forecast
At the beginning of August, the National Bank recorded the hryvnia exchange rate to the euro at 47.74 UAH, but it is expected that in the interbank market this indicator will drop even lower - to 47.64 UAH. This could become the lowest exchange rate since June, but then the rate was rising.
Ukrainians are interested in the possibility of a decrease in the exchange rate to the level of 45 UAH, and all of this will depend on the currency interactions between the dollar and the euro. Vulnerability in the exchange rate may lead to further declines in Ukraine, according to Danilo Monin.
'After the agreement by Trump and the EU on a 15% tariff on imports from Europe and commitments to purchase energy products from the USA, the dollar exchange rate strengthened from 1.18 to 1.14 USD/EUR. If the trend remains in August, the euro will either stay at the current level or drop to 48 UAH'
Redesign of Euro Banknotes
The European Central Bank (ECB) plans to change the design of the euro in the next few years to include images of famous people, birds, and years. The first versions of banknotes are planned to include portraits of influential figures such as Marie Curie and Ludwig van Beethoven.
There is also a theme of 'Rivers and Birds' planned for the new banknotes. The final design will be determined in 2026, while the new banknotes will not enter circulation until then.
Other Features of the Euro
From 2027, there will be restrictions on cash transactions in the EU, where amounts from 3,000 euros will require identification documents. In addition, due to a large number of counterfeit bills, the issuance of 500 euro banknotes in the EU has been discontinued, and some countries do not even release 1 and 2 cent coins.
