A cadet of the National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine must compensate 1 million hryvnias: details of the court case

A court hearing took place in Khmelnytskyi between the National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine (NANGU) and a expelled cadet. He owed nearly 1 million hryvnias as he left the studies prematurely, but due to non-payment to the institution, it resulted in a lawsuit.

This is stated in the court ruling published in the Unified State Register of Court Decisions.

Details of the case

According to the case materials, in August 2022, the young man signed a contract for studies at the National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine. However, he was expelled from the educational institution by his own desire in December 2024 — the cadet submitted a report for early termination of studies.

According to the terms of the contract, cadets are fully provided, and in case of early termination of the agreement, they are obliged to compensate the expenses incurred by the institution for their maintenance.

In this case, the academy demanded a return of 996 thousand hryvnias. Of this amount, about 800 thousand hryvnias was the monetary support, another 122 thousand hryvnias was for food, and 45 thousand hryvnias was for clothing support. The remainder was for utility payments and medical services.

As the former cadet did not voluntarily compensate the funds after being expelled from the academy, the representative of the educational institution went to court demanding that he pay the specified amount.

Court decision

Judge Oleksandr Shevchuk of the Khmelnytskyi District Administrative Court examined this case, reviewing all provided materials and arguments from both sides. The defendant did not exercise the right to submit a counterclaim.

Evaluating the evidence, the court concluded that the demands of the National Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine are legal and justified. As a result, the court fully satisfied the claim, obliging the former cadet to compensate the educational institution 996 thousand hryvnias.

The decision has not yet come into force and can be appealed in the appellate court.
