Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin plan to meet in Moscow on May 9 to celebrate Victory Day, reports the French publication Le Point.

This date holds special significance for the Russian leader as he uses it to assert the role of the USSR and modern Russia in the global order after World War II. The choice of May 9, rather than the 8th, has previously been used by Russia to commemorate victory differently from Western countries.

According to sources from Le Point, May 9, 2025, could become not only a symbol of historical victory over Nazism but also a possible conclusion to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict under the 'Kellogg Plan,' which envisions the end of negotiations by that date. Such a scenario would be a victory for both leaders, especially for Putin, who has continuously emphasized the need for 'denazification' of Ukraine.

Accepting Trump's invitation to celebrate Victory Day is not unprecedented. In 1995, in the context of post détente relations, Bill Clinton visited Moscow for the parade commemorating the 50th anniversary of victory, despite differences over international issues.

If a new agreement is reached between the US and Russia and Trump's visit occurs, European leaders will find themselves in a difficult position, watching as the American president pays tribute to Russian troops.

We also reported that Trump does not consider Zelensky important enough to participate in meetings.
