Energumene returns to action: legendary horse Mullins prepares for new races.
According to The Sun: The legendary horse of Willie Mullins, a two-time winner of the Cheltenham Festival Championship, has returned to training at the age of 11.
His colleague, two-time race champion Energumene, has earned over £1 million in competition, winning six prizes in Grade 1.
Energumene may return to the Cheltenham festival at the age of 12 after confirming he is back in training with Willie Mullins SportsfileIn 2022, he won twice at the distance of 2 m, but last season he only appeared on the tracks four times.
One of his victories was in the Grade 2 race at Kirk, but at the festival, he couldn't achieve better results and finished the final race at Sandown.
This raised questions among many players about whether Energumene's career has come to an end.
However, race manager Tony Bloom's Sean Graham confirmed that the horse is back in training at Closutton.
Energumene returned on August 1 along with other Bloom participants, Ilan Atlantic and shocking winner Triumph Hurdle Ponyros.
While participation in the Champion races at the age of 12 is planned, it will all depend on weather conditions.
Graham noted after Energumene's second place in last year's Clarence House races that he needs very soft ground.
The ideal situation for racing is 'heavy' ground.
However, there is a chance that only certain moments will be chosen for participation in the races, depending on weather conditions.
Graham said: “Our guy is 11 and we just need to pick our battles and have the right conditions - that will mean very soft ground.”
Mullins has repeatedly shown his dedication to Energumene, calling him 'simply brilliant' and celebrating when Paul Townend brought him to victory in 11 of 13 career races.
Energumene's return to training has already sparked much discussion among horse racing fans. If the horse manages to showcase his talent in the new season, his participation in the Champion race will be a significant event. It will be interesting to observe the developments – as he has the potential to return to his former form and delight fans on the tracks once again.
