Nicholas Hamilton's car caught fire during the race: how he escaped.
An unfortunate incident at the competition
According to The Sun: Lewis Hamilton's brother, Nicholas, had to leave his car as it caught fire during the race.
GettyNicholas was competing in the British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone when his car suddenly started smoking.
The 33-year-old driver was on lap 17 of 24 when something in his car caught fire, likely due to an oil leak.
Fortunately, Hamilton was able to stop the car at the side of the track and get out without assistance while marshals rushed to the scene.
Smoke was coming from the car while Nicholas remained unharmed, and Dan Lloyd took the race victory.
“A touching photograph of a very unpleasant and horrific moment for me, my family, and friends to start Sunday at Silverstone.”
“I felt strangely calm throughout the situation, trying to save the car from further damage while keeping myself safe, and I am very proud of how I handled it.”
Nicholas also raised the question of whether he would be able to compete in the final round of the season at Brands Hatch next week.
“But if I don’t get the chance to finish the season, I want to thank everyone who supported me this year.”
Nicholas returned to motorsport in March after nearly two years away. He announced his return to the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) for Un-Limited Motorsport.
Last year he raced for Team Hard, which ceased operations in July 2023. Currently, Nicholas is back behind the wheel alongside other drivers under the guidance of Bob Sharpless.
