Champions League returns: what to know about the updated tournament format.

On Monday, the new season of the UEFA Champions League kicked off. The official UEFA account recalled that in Ukraine, Donetsk "Shakhtar" started precisely from the Champions League qualification in the 2000s.

The group stage of the Champions League will be held in a fundamentally new format for the first time. Instead of the 32 best teams in Europe, 36 clubs will meet at the start of the group stage.

After internal drawing, the group stage will be conducted based on "thoughtful" groups of 4 teams, meaning one team will play two away and home matches in six rounds.
