Lithuania to Supply Ukraine with Additional Power Generation Equipment.
Lithuania Extends Energy Support to Ukraine
According to UATV: Lithuania is preparing a new package of energy assistance for Ukraine, which will include additional power generation equipment. Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal announced the plan following discussions with his Lithuanian counterpart, Žygimantas Vaičiūnas. This move is part of Lithuania's ongoing efforts to support Ukraine as it contends with a severe energy crisis, a direct consequence of Russia's war of aggression.
Equipment and Financial Support
This new initiative builds upon Lithuania's previous support. On January 17, Lithuania contributed 5.7 million euros to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, financing aimed at strengthening the country's heavily damaged energy infrastructure. Prior assistance from Lithuania has already included:
- More than 2,000 solar panels;
- Essential equipment and machinery for restoring power generation capacity.
Minister Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude for Lithuania's aid, noting that every major Ukrainian power plant has been targeted by Russian attacks, severely compounding the energy sector's challenges.
"I thanked [Lithuania] for the assistance it has provided to Ukraine," he emphasized.
This latest commitment underscores the continuation of vital international support for Ukraine during a prolonged energy crisis caused by the war. Lithuania's assistance, encompassing both funding and critical hardware, represents a significant step in helping Ukraine rebuild its energy infrastructure and mitigate the devastating impact of the conflict. Such cooperation highlights the strengthening partnership between the two nations in the face of shared challenges. The ongoing energy crisis in Ukraine poses a severe threat to civilian infrastructure and the economy during the winter months.
