John Toshack made a rare appearance after a serious illness: what happened.
John Toshack's Public Appearance
According to The Sun: John Toshack, a legend of Liverpool and Wales, recently made a rare public appearance at the Real Madrid match against Real Sociedad.
His serious illness has haunted him since 2022, when he contracted pneumonia after Covid.
EPAAmong numerous treatments, he had to undergo intensive therapy in Spain.
Toshack spent five days on a breathing apparatus.
Returning to life, the 76-year-old Toshack stepped onto the field at the Reale Arena in San Sebastián on Saturday, during a match that ended in a 2-1 victory for Real.
Real's coach Xabi Alonso warmly greeted him.
Toshack was spotted on the bench, sitting in a chair, during the ceremony where he received the gold and diamond badge from Sociedad's president Jokin Aperribay.
“I would not have achieved success without John Toshack,” Alonso noted.
This badge was awarded to Toshack in honor of his time spent as Sociedad's coach.
Career Achievements
Toshack led the Basque team in 386 matches across all competitions during three separate periods.
He achieved a significant milestone with Sociedad, winning the Copa del Rey in 1987.
At the stadium, he was greeted with applause, and he had the opportunity to interact with all the players.
Additionally, Toshack lifted the trophy when he coached Real Madrid, for which the team won the La Liga title in 1990.

During his playing career, he played 247 matches for Liverpool and scored 96 goals.
This forward helped the 'Reds' win three First Division titles and the European Cup in 1977.
