Liverpool Owners Move Closer to Purchasing Spanish Club: What We Know About the Deal.
According to The Sun: The management of Liverpool, representing Fenway Sports Group (FSG), is close to completing its search for a new football club for investment.
FSG, led by John W. Henry, has been managing the club at Anfield since 2010.
GettyThe company also owns the baseball club Boston Red Sox and the hockey team Pittsburgh Penguins.
According to Daily Mail, they are close to acquiring the La Liga club Getafe.
Searching for the Right Club
FSG has set up a special team that includes Michael Edwards, Julian Ward, and Pedro Marques to find a suitable European club for purchase.
Among the candidates were the French club Toulouse and the Spanish Malaga, along with about 20 other teams.
However, Madrid's Getafe currently looks like the most likely choice.
Sources suggest that Real Madrid is assisting in negotiations between the CEO of Real, José Ángel Sánchez, and the president of Getafe, Ángel Torres.
Upon learning of Liverpool's interest, Getafe welcomed the FSG delegation that visited the club in early August.
The negotiations have been positive due to the Englishman Ward's ability to speak Spanish fluently.
Next Steps
The FSG executives are currently contemplating their next actions.
The total acquisition cost has not yet been specified, but if the demands are acceptable, the deal could be concluded quite quickly.
Potential Benefits
Acquiring Getafe could give Liverpool the opportunity to follow Chelsea's example in relationships with Strasbourg and Manchester City with other clubs in the City Football Group.
FSG has significantly changed Liverpool over 15 years, transforming it from a 'sleeping giant' into one of the leaders in the Premier League and Europe.
PA
FSG is actively seeking new opportunities to expand its football business. Acquiring Getafe could be a significant step in the development of Liverpool on the international stage. It also underscores FSG's strategy aimed at building strong links in global football, which could bring additional benefits both financially and in sporting terms. Read also
