His results marked the first time in Ryder Cup history that an American finished the first four sessions without a victory.

Despite losing in all sessions, Scheffler managed to secure a solitary victory over Rory McIlroy in singles, which allowed him to leave New York with at least one point.

“It’s very hard to put into words how painful it is to lose all four matches. This week didn’t meet my expectations and I am a little disappointed,” Scheffler said.

“It’s important to have the trust of your captains and teammates. Playing all four matches and losing them is really hard,” he added.

“This week has probably been one of the lowest moments of my career, but it was also special because I have wonderful friends on this team, and I was glad to battle with these guys for three days.”

Scheffler and McIlroy discussed their emotional, physical, and psychological exhaustion on the course while playing in all five sessions.

“I’m on my last legs,” McIlroy said, describing their match as a “slugfest.”

Scheffler summed up: “Things just didn’t work out the way I planned. The week was tough for me personally, but I’m glad I was able to earn a point.”

Participating in all five matches proved to be a real challenge, which turned out to be mentally and physically exhausting.
