Luke Shaw's reaction to Roy Keane's criticism
According to The Sun: Luke Shaw admitted that he was outraged by Roy Keane's harsh comment about his performance in the Manchester derby, but acknowledged that the criticism was fair.
The experienced defender of 'Manchester United' received a lot of negative feedback after the 3-0 defeat to 'Manchester City'.
Keane stated that Shaw 'always avoided responsibility' and 'was stealing a salary' over the years, emphasizing that he never wanted to fight.
Shaw commented on Keane’s words, noting that he had to 'just accept the criticism.'
“People have their opinions, and sometimes you just have to take it with understanding,” said Shaw.
“Roy Keane has a lot of experience. He was one of the best captains of 'Manchester United'. It’s, of course, unpleasant. But criticism is a part of a footballer's life. I listen to it.”
Shaw, who joined 'United' in 2014, has suffered numerous injuries in recent years, but coach Ruben Amorim still believes in him.
The defender emphasized that the coach's support is extremely important to him:
“The most important thing is to know what I am capable of.”
Shaw believes that being chosen for the team regularly indicates the managers' faith in him.
But he needs more games to improve his level, playing with maximum effort.
He also noted that in the match against 'City', his physical shape left much to be desired when Erling Haaland easily bypassed him and scored the second goal for 'City':
“I am not getting any younger and I need to maintain stability,” he added.
Shaw urged himself to optimize his game, realizing that currently, fluctuations in performances do not suit him. He stressed the importance of consistency and stated that criticism is understandable, and he knows how to accept it.
Despite 'United's' victory in the match against 'Chelsea', Shaw pointed out issues with teammate Casemiro, who received a red card:
“He is an extremely experienced player. It will be very disappointing for him, but it’s not about individuals, it’s about the team. It’s always a team game,” summed up Shaw.Shaw openly reflects on his performances and the criticism acknowledged by Roy Keane. His willingness to accept feedback underscores his commitment to self-improvement and development as a player. At this time when 'Manchester United' is facing difficulties, it is important for players like Shaw to understand the significance of teamwork and support each other in tough moments. Criticism, though hard, can serve as a push for improving the results of both the player and the team as a whole.
