Premier League changes Hall of Fame rules: who will decide the fate of the nominees

According to The Sun: The Premier League has announced significant changes to the voting system for the Hall of Fame.

The first inductees in 2021 were Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry.

The Premier League Hall of Fame welcomed its first members in 2021Getty Currently, there are 24 members in the Hall of Fame - two of them will be elected in November

Last year, Ashley Cole, Andy Cole, and John Terry were inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The total number of members is now 24, among them managers Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsène Wenger.

Changes in the voting process

Previously, the public could vote for candidates to elect new members. However, a new format has been introduced for the 2025 induction.

Online voting for fans will remain, but the final decision will now be made by the existing 24 members of the Hall of Fame.

The results of the voting will be passed to these members, and they will decide who of the two new players will join the club.

The final results will be announced at a Premier League event at the beginning of November.

Among the candidates for induction in 2025 are: Sol Campbell, Michael Carrick, Jermain Defoe, Patrice Evra, Cesc Fabregas, Les Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler, Eden Hazard, Gary Neville, Michael Owen, Teddy Sheringham, David Silva, Yaya Toure, Edwin van der Sar, and Nemanja Vidic. Ryan Giggs has once again been overlooked.

Criteria for nomination

To be eligible for nomination to the Premier League Hall of Fame, players must be retired by the start of the awards season.

They are assessed solely for their achievements in the Premier League. Candidates must also have either 250 appearances in the Premier League or 200 appearances for one club, be included in the team of the decade, win a Golden Boot or a Golden Glove, be recognized as Player of the Season, win three Premier League titles, score 100 goals in the Premier League, or keep 100 'clean' sheets as a goalkeeper.
