Keegan Bradley made a surprising choice at the Ryder Cup: why it matters

According to The Sun: Luke Donald hopes history will repeat itself on Friday after Keegan Bradley decided to start with the women's game.

Team Europe captain Donald broke his team's tradition and began with split shots in Rome two years ago instead of foursomes.

The famous sign at Bethpage Black has been removed

It worked as Europe won the first session 4-0.

Donald, 47, may again select the same four pairs that proved successful at Marco Simone.

European players at the 18th hole in the afternoon foursomes gave hosts a lead of 6½ - 1½ after the first day, with points shared evenly on Saturday and Sunday.

However, Bradley points to the success of the U.S. team four years ago as the rationale for his decision to start with foursomes on home soil.

The Americans won two morning foursome sessions with an overall score of 6-2 at Whistling Straits, leading to a 19-9 victory.

Over the last five sessions of foursomes on day one, hosts have dominated, securing comfortable wins.

The U.S. won Friday's foursomes at Hazeltine 4-0 in 2016, while Europe only managed half points from the 12 possible in 2014, 2018, and 2023.

However, players starting the first round on Friday won't see the famous warning sign.

Bethpage decided to temporarily remove it for a week, realizing that all 24 players participating are indeed highly skilled.

Ryder Cup 2025 - all the information

The Ryder Cup returns THIS WEEK as Team Europe hopes to defend their title on American soil.

Luke Donald's team arrived in New York ahead of a big start on Friday.

Europe has dominated this prestigious competition in the 21st century, winning eight of 11 meetings since 2002.

However, only two of those victories were on U.S. soil, with Team USA winning in 2021 and 2016.

Additionally, Team Europe has only won one of the four Ryder Cups held in the U.S., in 2012 after winning in 2004, and Team USA currently enters as the bookmakers' favorite.
