Club Plans and Changes in Reconstruction
The construction work is expected to last at least two seasons.
Unlike many other clubs, Real Betis does not plan to increase the stadium's capacity to 60,000 fans. Instead, they are designing a new modern layout that will allow for the addition of VIP seats to increase revenue.
The historical structure of the stadium has become almost unrecognizable, as only one stand remains after the demolition of most of the arena.
Photos from the Villamarín construction site show numerous changes, with excavators at work and rubble scattered around.
Among the debris, one large green seat can be seen, while only the main supports remain on site.
Like Barcelona, Betis cannot hold matches at their stadium, thus playing at the multipurpose La Cartuja Stadium, which accommodates 70,000 spectators.
This stadium also hosted matches of the Spanish national team and was built for the 1999 World Athletics Championships.
The club hopes to return to Villamarín at the beginning of the 2027/28 season.
According to plans, the reconstructed stadium will receive a new roof. Club president Ángel Haro noted that the changes will provide a "qualitative and quantitative leap in revenue".
The renovation of the stadium is a crucial part of the club's strategy aimed at increasing their influence in European football and improving comfortable conditions for fans. This will not only increase ticket sales revenue but also provide new commercial opportunities that will undoubtedly have a positive impact on Real Betis's financial figures.
