Price reductions at River Island

According to The Sun: The well-known retailer has announced a major sale before the closures: all items are being sold for £10 or less.

The promotion started at the River Island store in Showgrounds Retail Park in Omagh, Northern Ireland.

The store is closing tomorrow, Monday, September 22, so customers have just a few hours left to say goodbye. To clear out remaining stock before the closure, the retailer has significantly reduced prices.

Brand staff are actively sharing details of the sale on social media.

“As most of you know, we are closing our doors on Monday, but before that, we have amazing discounts for everyone!”
“Doors will open at 9:00! Everything must go! This opportunity can't be missed! All children's clothing for £5 and under, all tops for £5 and under, all dresses for £10 and under.”

Customers can also buy coats for £10 or less, which is a great opportunity to take advantage of the discounts before the cold weather.

However, the news of the closures has sparked outrage among customers. One described it as “absurd.”

“River Island was the only decent fashion store in Omagh.”
“Another business closes down, we'll have nothing left in our town, it really is upsetting.”

Another shopper added: “Soon there will be no stores left in Omagh, it will become a ghost town.”

A fourth local resident called it “terrible.”

Store closures

The store in Northern Ireland is not the only one closing. River Island plans to close 35 stores as part of a major restructuring program approved by the High Court a month ago.

The chain reported losses of up to £32.3 million before taxes last year, and sales fell by 15% to £578.1 million.

Company executives believe that one of the factors contributing to the issues is the rise of online shopping.

River Island has also approached the landlords of 71 stores asking for rent reductions.

It was recently revealed that one of the stores in Wandsworth will close in January.

Here is the full list of 35 stores that will close:

Retail problems

River Island is not the only brand feeling the pressure from rising costs and declining consumer spending. For example, Hobbycraft closed its store in Crayford, London, on September 20.

A store in Norfolk will close on Monday, and one in Stafford will close on Sunday, September 28.

As a result, the retailer has launched significant discounts of up to 70% in all three stores to sell remaining stock before closing.

This comes after Hobbycraft's store closures in Maidenhead and Chichester.

The chain began a strategic business review in May with the aim of improving financial performance.

It is also worth noting that the Original Factory Shop is closing several stores across the UK as part of its restructuring.

Yesterday, their branch in Market Drayton, Shropshire, was closed. This company has already closed several stores this year, and 28 others are on the brink of closure.
